Wolf Creek Golf Club Preview
Nestled in the rugged terrain of Mesquite, Nevada, Wolf Creek Golf Club (check out the video in that link 🤯) is a visually amazing and challenging course. Designed by Dennis and John Rider, this public course opened in 2000 and has since become a must-play destination. Known for its dramatic elevation changes, striking desert landscapes, and meticulously maintained fairways, Wolf Creek is a testament to bold and imaginative golf course design.
Course Layout and Features
Wolf Creek spans 6,939 yards from the tips, playing par 72. The course is renowned for its significant elevation changes, with tee boxes often perched high above fairways and greens nestled in valleys. This unique topography creates a series of dramatic and picturesque holes that challenge all golfers.
Key Holes
2nd Hole (Par 4, 429 yards): One of the most photographed holes, this dogleg left features a tee box perched 11 stories above the fairway, requiring some serious precision.
12th Hole (Par 5, 544 yards): Often considered the signature hole, it features a dramatic downhill tee shot and a fairway that tilts towards a large pond on the left, demanding strategic play.
14th Hole (Par 4, 411 yards): Another iconic hole with a swooping right-to-left fairway lined with bunkers, requiring a precise drive to set up a manageable approach shot.
17th Hole (Par 5, 562 yards): This risk/reward hole features significant elevation changes and a challenging approach shot over a river to a peninsula green.
Playing Experience
Wolf Creek is often described as a "fantasy course". It looks like you’re playing on Mars. The course offers a mix of visually stunning and strategically demanding holes that make for an exhilarating and tough round of golf. However, it is also known for its polarizing nature; some golfers find the extreme design elements and manufactured feel off-putting, while others are captivated by its beauty and uniqueness.
Course Conditions
The course is generally well-maintained, with lush Bermuda fairways and firm, fast bentgrass greens that contrast sharply with the surrounding desert landscape. The maintenance team does a great job of keeping the course in top condition despite the challenging desert environment. Wish they would share some tips to keep my grass alive 😂.
Wolf Creek Golf Club is a bucket-list course for many golfers, offering a one-of-a-kind experience that combines breathtaking scenery with challenging play. Whether you love it or find it overwhelming, a round at Wolf Creek is sure to be memorable. If you're planning a trip to the Las Vegas area, making the 80-mile drive to Mesquite to play this iconic course is well worth the effort.

Men's Olympic Golf Preview
The Men's Olympic Golf Competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics is set to be one of the most exciting and competitive golf events in recent history. Hosted at the renowned Le Golf National course starting tomorrow, the tournament features a stellar lineup of the world's top golfers, all vying for the prestigious podium.
Key Storylines
1. Historic Venue: Le Golf National
Le Golf National, located just outside Paris, is a challenging course known for its narrow fairways, deep roughs, and multiple water hazards. Designed by Hubert Chesneau and Robert von Hagge, the course has hosted numerous prestigious events, including the 2018 Ryder Cup. The course's setup will test the accuracy and strategic play of the golfers.
2. Major-Medal Double
Two of the top contenders, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, have the opportunity to achieve a historic feat. Winning a major championship and an Olympic gold medal in the same year. Scheffler, who won the Masters in April, and Schauffele, the reigning PGA and Open champion, are both in excellent form and could make history with a victory in Paris.
3. South Korean Exemption Stakes
South Korean golfers Tom Kim and Byeong Hun An have more than just medals on the line. A podium finish would exempt them from mandatory military service, adding an extra layer of motivation and pressure.
Top Contenders
Scottie Scheffler: The world No. 1 and favourite to win, Scheffler has been in exceptional form, with consistent top-20 finishes throughout the year.
Xander Schauffele: The defending Olympic champion and recent major winner, Schauffele is known for his steady play and clutch performances in big events.
Rory McIlroy: With a strong track record at Le Golf National, McIlroy is looking to improve on his previous Olympic performance and secure a medal for Ireland.
Jon Rahm: Fresh off a win at a LIV Golf event, Rahm's current game makes him a instant contender.
Collin Morikawa: With his precise iron play, Morikawa is well-suited to the demands of Le Golf National and is expected to be in contention.
Course Characteristics and Strategy
Le Golf National is a par-71 course that plays 7,174 yards. The course is known for its large green complexes and penal rough. Which will require players to be both accurate off the tee and strategic with their approach shots. The course's design discourages the "bomb and gouge" style of play, favouring those who can navigate its challenges with precision.
