Outsmart college costs
Ready for next semester? June is a key time to assess how you’ll cover college costs. And considering federal aid often isn’t enough, you might have to consider private student loans.
You’re just in time, though—most schools recommend applying about two months before tuition is due. By now, colleges start sending final cost-of-attendance letters, revealing how much you’ll need to bridge the gap.
Understanding your options now can help ensure you’re prepared and avoid last-minute stress. View Money’s best student loans list to find lenders with low rates and easy online application.

Who won the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot, finishing six shots ahead of the field? |
When Playoffs Get Spicy

Ryan Fox just proved that patience pays off in the most dramatic way possible. The 38-year-old Kiwi golfer survived a marathon 4-hole playoff against Sam Burns to claim the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, banking a cool $1.76 million and securing his spot at next week's U.S. Open.
Here's how wild this got: Burns absolutely torched the course Sunday with a blistering 8-under 62 – his lowest final round ever on Tour – including five straight birdies on the back nine to post 18-under and seemingly lock up the win. Plot twist: Fox drained a clutch 17-foot birdie on 18 to force overtime.
The Playoff Drama Was Unreal
These two went toe-to-toe on the par-5 18th four times before Fox finally broke through. The decisive moment? Fox launched a 3-wood from 258 yards that he called "probably the best shot I ever hit," landing it within 10 feet for a two-putt birdie while Burns three-putted for par.
The Damage:
Winner: Ryan Fox (-18, $1,764,000, 500 FedEx points)
Runner-up: Sam Burns (-18, $1,068,200, 300 FedEx points)
Third: Kevin Yu (-17, $676,200)

Plot Twists Galore
The defending champ stumble: Robert MacIntyre, who won last year with his dad caddying, couldn't repeat the magic. The Scotsman finished T-31 at -6, ending dreams of back-to-back Canadian Open wins.
Big names, big misses: Rory McIlroy had a weekend to forget, shooting 78 in the second round and missing the cut entirely. Multiple tour winners withdrew before and during the tournament, including Matt Kuchar and Sahith Theegala.
Course debut success: TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley hosted its first-ever PGA Tour event, with the $9.8 million purse drawing a solid field despite the withdrawals.
Fox's hot streak: This marks Fox's second PGA Tour victory in just over a month – he also won the Myrtle Beach Classic in a playoff. Dude's clearly figured out how to close when it matters.
The win catapults Fox into the U.S. Open field at Oakmont, where he'll try to keep this breakout season rolling. Not bad for a guy who was grinding on the European Tour just a few years back.
