Golf Trip
This week we are planning a golf trip to Bandon, Oregon. And yes, we are staying at the Bandon Dunes Property. If you are reading this on a computer check out their interactive course flyovers HERE. They are pretty wild. The link goes to the Pacific Dunes course.
Day 1 - Bandon Preserve and Shorty’s
We are starting this one off a little different than usual. Day 1 we are playing two par 3 courses that are likely nicer than your local muni. You know, to get the short game dialled in (hopefully 🤞) before we hit the championship courses the next 2 days..
Tucked amidst the majestic coastal pines and dunes the Brandon Preserve course is like golfing in a nature lover's paradise! Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, this 13-hole par-3 gem is as challenging as it is stunning. Picture this: you're teeing off with the ocean waves crashing nearby, navigating through strategically placed bunkers and tricky greens. It's a real treat for golfers of all levels!
And let's not forget about Shorty's Par 3 course—where big fun comes in small packages! 🎉 With nineteen perfectly crafted par-3 holes ranging from 64 to 125 yards, Shorty's is where beginners can brush up on their short game skills and pros can fine-tune their precision shots. Plus, the coastal backdrop adds a scenic touch to every swing. It's the perfect sidekick to the championship courses at Bandon Dunes!
Day 2 - Bandon Dunes
Alright, folks, gather 'round for a tale about Bandon Dunes, where the golfing gods themselves come to play! Crafted by the one and only David McLay Kidd, this championship course is a coastal masterpiece that'll leave you breathless.
Picture this: you're standing on the tee box, with the ocean breeze in your hair and the roar of the Pacific as your soundtrack. It's like something out of a golfing fairy tale! With its challenging layout, complete with rolling fairways and sneaky bunkers, every shot is an adventure waiting to happen.
Bandon Dunes captures the spirit of Scottish links golf like no other, whisking you away to a world of natural wonder and pure golfing bliss. So whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting started, get ready for an unforgettable round against the stunning backdrop of Oregon's rugged coastline. It's a golfing experience fit for kings, right here in the Pacific Northwest!
Day 3 - Pacific Dunes
Welcome to Pacific Dunes, the highest rated course on the property, where every swing feels like a journey through a coastal wonderland! Crafted by the renowned Tom Doak, this course is like a masterpiece painted by Mother Nature herself.
Imagine standing on the tee, with the salty breeze in your hair and the sound of crashing waves in the distance. It's a golfer's paradise, blending rugged terrain with breathtaking vistas. From the undulating fairways to the strategically placed hazards, every shot is a thrilling test of skill and strategy.
Pacific Dunes offers a golfing experience unlike any other, where players can immerse themselves in the raw beauty of the Pacific Northwest. So grab your clubs and get ready for an adventure on the links that you won't soon forget!
PGA News
And that's a wrap on the 2024 Valspar Championship! In a stunning turn of events, Peter Malnati took home the trophy, outshining the competition with a dazzling -12 under par. Not just a win, but a whopping $1.5M payday and 500 FedExCup points to boot! 💰🏆
Peter Maltini hoisting a trophy for the 2nd time in his PGA career
Runner-up status went to Cameron Young, who was hot on Malnati's heels with a -10 under par. Close but no cigar, Cam! Chandler Phillips and Mackenzie Hughes tied for the bronze, proving that the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort doesn't give up its secrets easily.
Now, let's talk unforgettable moments 🌟. Malnati's birdie on No. 17 in the final round? Pure magic. It wasn't just a shot; it was THE shot that clinched his victory. And let's not forget Keith Mitchell and Mackenzie Hughes, who both finished with flair on No. 18. Mitchell even threw in an eagle putt on No. 14 in the final round but it was too little too late, he ended 6 over in the final round to take him out of contention.
Birdies, eagles and an albatross.
